Learning Flash

Today in DIM I learned the different components in Flash. I found out that Flash is quite similar to Fireworks, except Flash has a timeline that shows the time for the object that you are making a motion with. I learned that the blank page in Flash is called a stage. We created a circle first with the circle tool and then made a motion tween. That made the ball move in a straight line. When we grabbed the center of the symbol and moved it in different places, making a small roller coaster track, then clicked return, the circle would roll around the track. Then we could make the circle disappear by lowering the Alpha.

Feedback

How to charge a laptop battery?
More pictures maybe? You could add a song so that way your voice doesn't sound so loud and unclear at some points.

How to clean a laptop?
Speak louder and even our your music sound to match your voice. Liked how you showed how to clean it. And remember you need to make your own song.

Benefits of having a laptop.
Slow down your slides and the words that are on it so we can read it. Add your voice and a song to liven it up.

The Insurance Spot
Add more photos and try adding some video instead of all the slides with words. Liven it up with a song in the background throughout the video, it'll help keep the viewers interested.

What I learned from the video? How I'll use this information in my video?

What I learned from the video was different ways to approach showing stills and video of how we will show the audience what we are talking about. Such as the right ways to treat your computer in school. For example, carrying your laptop in your case at all times, never holding your laptop with one hand, never letting other people borrow your laptop for they may vandalize them, don't leave them at the edge of the table, and not to try to fix it the computer yourself. We can use these in our videos and show the right way to care for your laptop.

Misuse of Laptop at School Script

Narrator: Do you know how to treat you laptop properly? Do you carry it in a case? (show someone carrying it in a case) Do you have it with you at all times? (Someone who has it with them) Do you use your laptop for school purposes? (Show someone doing homework) Do you have it charged when you come to school? (Show full battery) Do you clean it? (Show clean laptop) Are you careful with it, use it wisely, and have insurance for it? (examples)

Narrator: You probably don't. You probably do these things. (Show laptop in hands, in backpack, leaving it at the edge of a desk, leaving it unattended, sharing with other people, leaving it at home, playing games, downloading music, using it as a plate, throwing it, bringing it to school dead, using it as a cushion, ignoring problems, fixing it yourself, leaving it in the sun, leaving it in your locker) This is not the way you should be using your laptop. The laptop is an expensive piece of technology.....treat it with respect!

Things that Sing

What do we need?
Household items, fishing line, goo-goo eyes, glue, camera, laptop, and music

How do we do it?
We are going to glue goo-goo eyes onto some objects and tie some fishing line on top of the head. Then we will record each object to move it's 'mouth' and sing to the tune we choose.

Script Write

Effect - Camera will begin in a head shot, then zoom out. It will then switch from scene to scene as a full body shot.

Location - Anthony Elementary

Description - Driving down the street and when the male character gets a text message which enrages him while he is driving, he wheels his tricycle off to the side and hits another tricycle.

Dialog with Description:

Man pretending to be a Teenage Girl: (Text Message Alert Rings) I'm a teenage girl. Man rides down the street while repeating his lines to the camera. This will be a head shot at first, to hide to fact that he's riding a tricycle. My Bff Becky txts me that she's kissed Johnny. He then gets a text message and proceeds with his lines.Well that's a problem because, I like Johnny. Now I'm emotionally compromising. Whoopsies. After reading the message, he crashes into another tricycle out of rage. Then the owner of the tricycle (woman) comes up with a few grocery bags and sees the damage. The man driver is shown again speaking into the camera then winks. OMG Becky's not even hot. And if you've got cut rate insurance you could be paying for this yourself. So get Allstate you could save money and be better protected from mayhem like me (wink).

Then a poster flashes in front of the camera with the Allstate logo, name, and information. Then the narrator speaks and the commercial ends.

Narrator: Dollar per dollar nobody protects you from mayhem like Allstate.

Commercial Keeps and Changes

Keeping: We're going to try to keep the same basic script, but probably change a couple words. We're keeping the same idea of the character.

Changing: Instead of being in a vehicle, the character will be driving a tricycle. We're changing the scenery from a parking lot to something convenient to us.

Commercial Alter

Melissa Avila and Aliya Hernandez

We'll be altering the Allstate commercial of "Teenage Girl on a Rampage" to "Wee Toddler on a Tantrum."
We'll be changing from a teenage girl driving a pink car to a small child riding a tricycle.

Favorite Commercial: Cheetos - Piano

Why did you pick this commercial?
I picked this commercial because I find it very entertaining to watch. I think whoever watches this commercial would agree with me.
What are the important parts of the commercial?
The important parts of the commercial are when the Cheetos Cheetah is playing on the piano. He and this piano sales lady are playing a five second tune over and over again. This repeating annoys another sales man who is eating cheetos. He then asks them, "Don't you know any other songs?" And what do they do in response? They play the same tune, in a higher tone.

What I'd Like To Do Someday

If there was one thing I would like to do someday in my future, is probably travel to some parts in the world I have only dreamed of visiting. I'd like to go to Egypt and see the pyramids and giant Sphinx. I wish to visit England to see Big Ben and maybe get a glance of the queen. Europe in general has always been a tourist spot for me. I want to visit Canada because a friend, may he rest in peace, said that Vancouver is one of the most flourish and green places in North America. The weather there is nice and cold, and I love that type of cloudy weather. I would also visit Washington, just because it's weather and climate would at least be close to that of Vancouver, if for some reason I couldn't visit Canada. Boston would also be on my list because I would love to have floor seats to a Boston Celtics game. There are too many places I'd like to visit, and hopefully I'll get to see at least these places, if I get a good job that would be able to afford these trips.

20 Pieces of Information

Genetic Mutations
1. A Genetic Mutation is any change in a cell's DNA. The Chemical that carries all of the Genetic information in a cell.
2. A Genetic Mutation can occur before birth.
3. When the mother is carrying the baby, something may go wrong with the pregnancy and cause a defect in the DNA.
4. A mutation may have no effects on the person at all, but it can be lethal or deadly.
5. Some mutations can even cause a cell to divide incorrectly which can lead to a disease called cancer.
6. Some mutations can be passed from a parent to the child and may cause the child to be born with a defect or a disease.
7. Well, because of a gene mutation, this is how the West Nile Virus became a disease in birds first then humans.
8. A gene mutation could lead to a helpful change such as having an animals hair color change so that it blends within its surroundings.
9. Scientists believe mutations led to the evolution of living things.
10. The simplest form of mutation is point mutation (a change in DNA or RNA nucleotide sequence that causes the wrong amino acid to be produced).
11. The genetic code (tells cells what to do) is the order the chemical units (DNA) is arranged.
12. If this chain gets out of order, breaks, or changes in some other way, a mutation has occurred.
13. Too much exposure to harmful energy, like X-Rays, or even certain chemicals can cause damage to the DNA (causing a genetic mutation).
14. DNA can also be damaged while being made.
15. Cystic Fibrosis is caused when a mutation occurs in the egg or sperm cells.
16. Mutation is the main source of genetic variation, which makes up evolution by natural selection.
17. Mutations can happen in an individual gene or a large are of the chromosome.
18. Mutations in the chromosomes may result from an uneven number of chromosomes (gain, loss, or rearrangement of chromosome segments).
19. Mutation plays a big part in evolution because it can cause changes in phenotypes and cane make it beneficial.
20. Mutation can be beneficial for animals or organisms by having them adapt to changes in their environments.

What I Learned from the Presentation

From Ms. Fogerson's presentation, I learned that we have more sources available to us besides Google. She showed us three different references which we can use for our Genetics Video. These new resources are easy for us to access and simple to use. I actually found one quite useful with information I can depend on. I plan on using these new sources whenever I need to research something that I have no knowledge of.

Genetics Questions

  1. If my mother has internal tumors, what is the chance (in percentage) that I will develop them as well?
  2. Is there any way to stop the down syndrome gene from reaching an embryo?
  3. How else can gene mutation effect a person?

SMART Goal Update

My SMART Goal was to finish writing my book. So far, everyday I have been able to add a little bit more to my writing. I've even been able to reach my goal of five pages per day yesterday. Now that I'm writing more, I have more notes written in my notebook too. I have even started illustrating some pictures that I'm hoping can be inputed in-between chapters.

SMART Goal Podcast Script

Narrator: SMART Goal Podcasts. What's your goal? What will you do? How?

I was asked what my SMART Goal for this year would be. My goal is to finish writing the book I've started and be able to finish it by the end of the year 2011. There are some things I must do before I reach my goal. I need to do some brainstorming and add more ideas to my book. I carry a spiral notebook full of notes and partial ideas that have come to mind which I jot down real quick. I go back to my notes later when I'm going to add to my book. I plan on writing a minimum of five pages per day for six days out of the week. I have a laptop, which will make writing and organizing much easier. Once I'm done with this, I will go back to revise and edit my book, and end up with my final production titled Inferno.
What will your goal be? What will you do? How will you do it?

Narrator: Anyone can make a SMART Goal, you just have to make it happen. A Goal without a Plan, is just a Wish. Send in your goal today. SMART Goal Podcasts.

Smart Goal Update

I have been consistent with my SMART goal. I have been writing more in my book everyday. I have been brainstorming as well in a notebook. These notes have kept me organized and have kept me on track with where I am in the book and what details I must remember. I carry this notebook around just in case I come across an idea I need to write so I can remember later. I have even edited the first three chapters of the book.

Math Question: Step by Step

Question:
When 3,467 is subtracted from twice a number the result is 14,000. What is the number?

Steps
1. Find your variables
2. Write out your equation and solve
3. Once your equation is written, get your 'x' variable by itself by adding the number adjacent to the 'x' from both sides of the = sign. In this example, the number you would be adding is 3,467.
4. The 'x' variable in this equation happens to be squared. To get the 'x' alone, you must square root the sum you received after doing Step 3.
5. Once you have finished square rooting, you must square your answer to the second power.
6. This will resolve with your final answer. Examples: x=?
7. Lastly, check your answer by plugging in the final variable into your first equation in Step 2.

Timely

Goal: Finish the book I'm writing.

S - I want to finish writing the book I've started and be able to publish it once I have revised and edited it a couple of times.
M - I want to finish writing my book by writing at least five pages a day until I've finished. I hope to be done by the end of 2011.
A - From now on until my production is complete, I will write and brainstorm everyday, at least six days out of the week. If I feel like I'm on the brink of discovery, I will write more than five pages and keep going. At this rate, I should be done way before the end of the year.
R - My Goal is reasonable because with my laptop, I'll be able to write everyday once I've come home from school and finished my homework. I will be able to work until it's time for me to get some rest.
T - I will write at least five pages a day, six days out of the week, then if I am able to do this without writers block, I'll edit my writing, then I'll reach my goal.
